Rants & Bad Language Ahead

Why after such a long and grueling week does our toilet break on my ONE day off?!!! WHY?! I just wanted to relax today and enjoy the day since I have to be at work tomorrow to work with painters, which I’m not too pleased with. I almost quit yesterday…came very close. Three other people yesterday were in tears and ready to walk out the door with me. Anyways, woke up this morning to find our toilet was broken and had maintenance come. They needed to replace a part and they didn’t have it. So we had to wait 4 more hours for it to get fixed. We couldn’t use the facilities until then either!!!! I was forced out to the dinner to take care of my business. It’s all fixed now but it’s totally thrown my day off. I’m really at the point where I’m going to tell everyone around me to “Fuck Off”! Pardon the bad language but I’m just not feeling friendly lately. Corporate America is slowing sucking my soul out and killing me. Hope you are enjoying your weekend and don’t take using your bathroom for granted. =P

Take the Good With The Bad

I started off my hot day with the new Mint Mocha Chip Frappuccino Light Blended Coffee from Starbucks. I saw it on the menu last week there and I decided today was the day to try it. I love chocolate mint so this was perfect and let me tell you it did not disappoint. It was DIVINE and made going back to work today more bearable. Although I was sadden to hear that my beloved show, Men in Trees was cancelled. I knew it was in danger to be canned and fans were fighting it but seems it really will end. I love this show and always look forward to it..it’s the show that makes me happy. Damn them!!! Anyways, the remaining episodes are slated for a summer run and I’ll be tuned in, happy to savor the last of a series that was short, but very sweet.

Leisurely Creative

Enjoyed a nice leisurely day yesterday going to lunch and some errands. The weather was gorgeous and the city is much emptier on these holiday weekends, which is such a treat! Been working today on my portfolio, some new products and client designs. I’ve been plugging away for a few hours but feel like the creativity is coming to an end. Maybe a late day shower will pep me up?

Anyways, here a cute picture of John & I from the wedding the other day. Frame from Shabby Miss Jenn. More to come…

Doing Nothing

So after posting the other day about my wedding workshop being a disappointment I got an email from The Knot. Seems I wasn’t the only one disappointed with the workshop so as a result The Knot is offering a one year subscription to their magazine as well as a full refund. I was pleasantly surprised by this and quite happy.

We went to a family wedding yesterday and had a really good time. I took tons of cool pictures and ate lots of amazing food (too much probably). The reception had a mini tea garden and an asian flair to it which was pretty neat. We have been wanting to go to this big tea garden/park for awhile but haven’t made it there so this was a nice small substitute. I’ll post some photos this weekend hopefully.

Anyways, why is it when I have several days off “to do” nothing and finally have the time I don’t want to do ANYTHING! I’m not a person who can ever really relax. Even when I’m “relaxing” I’m thinking of all the things I should be doing or take care of. I have productivity issue but according this this list it’s neccassary to be artistic. So who I am to disagree? LOL! Anyways, here it is Memorial Day Weekend and I have several days off and have no motivation. Hopefully tomorrow I can kick start my creativity and get some things done. We’ll see…

125th

Happy 125th birthday to the Brooklyn Bridge!

The completed work will not only be the greatest bridge in existence, but it will be the greatest engineering work of the continent, and of the age.”

Stationery Show Report

I’m fresh from the National Stationery Show and boy do I have lots to report. It was a long and jammed packed day, taking in lots of design eye candy at the Jacob Javits Center in NYC.

I started out my morning a bit late and grabbed a cab to the convention center. I got stuck in lots of rush hour traffic and spent quiet a penny to make it in time for my Wedding Trends 2008 Workshop from The Knot. I got there just in time while several people were waiting stand by for this lecture. I found a seat and shortly after it started. I got my notebook out and was ready to take as many notes as I could. Before I knew it the lecture was OVER! I’m serious this workshop was a speed lecture of 25 minutes of some lady just rattling off things from her Powerpoint presentation. My cab ride was longer then listening to her. It was interesting to hear about the upcoming wedding trends but I didn’t learn anything particular special that I couldn’t have found out on the web. I can’t believe people waited stand by for this.

Anyways, after the “workshop” I was starving and in need of caffeine. Off I went to look for food and coffee and paid through the note – $6 for a cup of Starbucks. It wasn’t that good and the food selection wasn’t the best but I wasn’t there for the food.

So onto the show…where do I begin?! There was so much to see and take in I don’t know where to begin. Thinking of it makes my head spin. Seeing all the products was very inspiring as well as creative overwhelming at the same time. Many of my favorite card, sticker and papers companies were there to display their new 2008 products.

There were definitely many popular themes and trends through many of the paper lines. I spotted a variety of bright and bold colors – greens, oranges, pinks and yellow in all combinations. And I’m happy to report everywhere I looked were prints of birds and OWLS! I loved it! Many companies use owls in there logos or brand ID and it was so fun to see how it was used so differently.

I picked up numerous business cards and catalogs to help inspire some creativity. Wherever there is free stuff I’m there, so I scored some free pens, pins and this great eco-friendly bag from the cool Ecojot. Since this show is essential for wholesalers I don’t think I should have gotten the bag without purchase but I’m glad I did – it’s GREEN!

Like I mentioned the show is mostly for wholesalers who have a business and buy products. I felt somewhat out of place when people where asking where I was from and what company I worked for. I gave away some business cards but that was mostly to get people to leave me alone and shut up. I’m not much into smoozing and talking myself up..least not today and not only on a half of $6 coffee. LOL!

I am looking forward to CHA (Craft and Hobby Association) in July since it will be with my fellow “scrappers” and hopefully I’ll fit in more. Plus John will be there so I can enjoy the experience with someone. It’s hard to enjoy it alone sometimes and hard to remember it all. But anways for the most part it was definitely worth going to see what’s out there and hopefully it will get my creative juices flowing soon. I would have taken pictures but didn’t know the etiquette and didn’t want to stand out, so I opted for the catalogs.

I’ll post some links of the cool companies I got to see during the week. I have to weed through all the cards and catalogs and make sense of them all. Like I needed to add more clutter to my apartment. LOL!

Hope you’ve had a good Monday and talk to you later,

Weekend Recap

Had a nice weekend. We went to a lovely wedding on Saturday night for a family friend and ate lots of goodies. We went tonight to the new Moe’s near us and had more yummy food. It’s dangerous having such good burritos across the street!

Excited about attending the National Stationery Show tomorrow. Should be very inspiring to see all the products and designs out there. I’m even taking a workshop on wedding trends sponsored by The Knot. I’m hoping this will help tap into the bridal market for design. We’ll see but should be inspiring nonetheless and the day off from work!

I’ll report more tomorrow after my visit! Have a good Monday.

Productively Unproductive

I’m feeling so unproductive this week and it’s making me feel a bit crazy. My “To Do” lists are long and even when I cross something off I feel like I’m still getting no where! Simple things seems to take forever to get done and once I’m done I look at it and think “That’s all I got after hours of work?!” How do lots of other people produce so much great creative and graphics in a short amount of time? More talent and better time management skills? I don’t know but I’m feeling a bit frazzled from it all.

Anyways, I did score an awesome new green backpack on ebay that I was having trouble locating. So I did accomplish that!

Happy Mother’s Day

In celebration of Mother’s Day I made this cute word art for you to grab. Special thanks to Kylie Clark for fonts used.

I hope all the moms are enjoying there days today and thanks to my mom for well having me!

More soon..
