Wake UP!

I just recently saw the movie UP. I loved the deeper meaning to this movie and loved that it centered around scrapbooking. What I took away from the movie was – don’t focus all your attention on what you want to do all the time. Sometimes having a “bucket list” of the things you haven’t done yet can weigh on you. Let life take it’s course and treasure the things you have done. Find meaning and value in the everyday that makes things special.
Instead of making a bucket list (which is all fine and good) I encourage you to comprise a list of all the great experiences you have done already that make you YOU!

Here’s a small list I started of some cool things I’ve done although many of them have yet to be scrapbooked – eventually.

  • Attended the taping of several TV shows – Late Night with Conan O’Brien, Letterman, Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Rachel Ray, The View, Will & Grace, The Martha Stewart Show
  • Been to the top of the Empire State building
  • Been to the top of the Statue of Liberty
  • Been and worked in the World Trade Center – Tower 1
  • Seen the Hoover Dam
  • Seen the Grand Canyon
  • Parasailed with my friend Rebecca in Turks & Caicos
  • Visited a run plant in Martique
  • Tried snorkelling
  • Almost got into a fight with Molly Ringwald on the street in NYC (although I’m sure she isn’t aware of this but she almost walked right into me and I almost yelled at her until I realized who it was. Still learn how to stay to the right when walking the streets of NYC Molly!)
  • Told Bobby Flay I liked his shirt while waiting for an elevator (its said “Still Hungry”, which I think is a new show he is doing funny enough)
  • Followed Britney Spears once into a costume jewelry store in SOHO on my lunch break from work
  • Visited the “Cheers” bar with my friend Dan in Boston
  • Rode The Cyclone several times in Coney Island
  • Honeymooned in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
  • Had a Nathan’s hot dog in Coney Island
  • Went to the 1st Advertising Week Walk of Fame Mascot Parade

So what are some of the things you have done and experienced that make you YOU?

Show & Tell: Cyrano Layout

I’m a huge Jennifer Garner fan so when she was in the play Cyrano back in 2007 I had to go! I recently JUST scrapped this page and I’m very happy with how it came out. I started the layout back in 2007 after seeing the show which is good because the journalling is very authentic. The design however took awhile to come together. Sometimes I start a layout and come back to it months later. I really do like to have my layouts “just perfect” so I don’t try to rush them or my creative process if I don’t have to. In this layout I used my scanned tickets and the Playbill to add a personal touch to the digital design. I think this is a great way to add more personal meaning and context to your layouts which I try to do often, especially with ticket stubs (working on an upcoming blog post on ticket stubs – stay tuned).

Weekend Wrap Up

Frame from Paislee Print at Oscraps.com

I am all about helping people capture their moments so I should share with you more of my on-goings as well. I know I show you layouts of things but these events usually are from the past and not so current. I’m going to try to do every Monday a weekend wrap up post for you to stay up to date. That’s assuming I have exciting weekend plans and fun things to share. I’m not always that exciting :)

This past weekend was a busy and fun one though. I attended a craft fair with some friends in Westchester for the afternoon. It was nice and inspiring to see many artists and their creations. It was a bit pricey for my budget and I didn’t get anything but I did find some great artists I would like to follow.
Here are some of them you might want to check out as well:

The craft fair was on the grounds as the Lyndhurst Castle which we decided to take a tour of. It’s a very cool castle from the outside but a little too much for my tastes inside. It was interesting though to hear about the history and see it first hand. All in all the afternoon was fun and time spent with close friends is the best.

We also enjoyed an awesome rock concert last night. My husband and I are big fans of the British band, The Alarm and we got to see them perform at The Highline Ballroom in NYC. We’ve seem then 2 other times but I think this third concert was the best since I know them much better now. I had a great time singing and bopping around. Even got a very cool tshirt to remember the show. I love concert tshirts – such a great remembrance of the show!
Great weekend and a busy week ahead – celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary, so lots of mini celebrations this week.
So, how was your weekend?
More soon,

That Evening Sun

I’m so excited the movie That Evening Sun starring Hal Holbrook and Dixie Carter is finally out today on DVD! This was the last movie that Hal and Dixie starred in together (Dixie sadly passed away earlier this year) and it’s a very touching performance.

After seeing the movie last year in NYC, John and I had the honor of meeting and talking with Hal for a few minutes. He is a true gentleman and I’m so glad we had the opportunity to meet him. I did this layout to capture the excitement of that night. Can’t wait to get the DVD and watch the 4 extra hours of special features!
