Happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving! This holiday season I am so very thankful for you my readers! I truly am grateful that you value the importance of capturing your lives and have let me be apart of it. I hope you have a wonderful Turkey Day and make lots of new memories!

Holly Berry Boutique

Last week I had the opportunity to be apart of the Holly Berry Boutique at my nephew’s school. It was great to meet people and introduce them to my service of custom scrapbooks.

The biggest hit of the night was my new service – kids art books. Recently I scanned a ton of my nephew’s artwork to preserve it in scrapbook form and also to help his parents save some space. Well a lot of parents could relate with needing more space since their kid’s artwork takes up a lot of real estate.

And Jackson was thrilled to see his artwork in a book. He didn’t want to stop looking at it – too cute! So if you are interested in doing your very own art scrapbook of your child’s art please place an order through the new store! Once your order is placed I will contact you to start your book. You can see more of the photos from the boutique on my Facebook fan page.

All About Baby: Newborn Photo Session Q&A with Audra Little

Let us continue on with All About Baby scrapbooking and talk about photos! Taking photos are one of the most important ways to capture your new baby and all the new memories to be had. I am honored to have on the blog today photographer Audra Little to talk all about Newborn Baby Photo Sessions.

Why have a newborn photo session? Why is it important?
Newborn photography is so important for mothers and fathers to get because your baby grows SO fast and they are only a “newborn” for a short amount of time. When you first have a baby, you are in such a fog… lack of sleep, your hormones are out of control, your excited, and you have a ton of new feelings you never knew existed! This is the perfect time for photos! You will look back and be so thankful that you had them because seriously, it all happened so fast!

When should a newborn’s portrait session be scheduled?
The best time for newborn photos to be taken is within the first 14 days. Why? Because at this age, they still sleep a lot, which makes for some pretty amazing photos. It is still possible to get great shots beyond 14 days, but ideally that is the best time.

What should the newborn wear for the photo session?
For my newborn sessions, I prefer the babies to be naked! They are so innocent and it really makes some great shots. I also really like just swaddling them up in a blanket to get some shots as well.

Fun props and decor idea? Poses?
As far as props or décor ideas, I really like to use what the family already has in their houses. You would be amazed at the fun stuff you can find in the client’s home. Be careful though.. babies do like to pee when naked J I also like to use blankets, buckets and baskets. An absolute “must have” for all of my newborn sessions, is my bean bag chair. Babies fit perfectly into the bean bag – it makes them feel secure and cuddles them. Of course I cover it with different blankets to hide it.

I like to shoot the baby alone sleeping, or if I can, get them propped up on their little arms for a face shot. I also love to get the parents in with their baby too. A classic shot that I love it when the father holds the baby’s head in his hands, or when the mother kisses the baby…so sweet.

Thanks so much Audra for answering some baby related photo questions! I hope this gets moms excited to take some fun photos of your newborn!

Holiday Scrapbook Ideas

Looking for fun ways to put your own spin on the holidays this year? Well here’s a few ideas to help share your favorite scrapbook layouts and memories this holiday season:

  • Spruce up your holiday mailings with a custom stamp design of a favorite layout/photo. It is bound to get the attention of your family and friends while adding some of your own personality into each envelope!
  • If making custom stamps is too expensive or not your thing then make labels for the back of your envelopes.
  • Do you send an annual holiday newsletter? If so include a few small layouts in it to showcase the fun things you’ve done throughout the year!
  • Make wrapping paper from your memories – either repeat one design or repeat several to make a nice pattern.
  • String together several layouts to make decorative garland for your home.
  • Make Christmas ornaments out of them. Print them out and add a hole with a punch at the top. Feel free to add additional decorations to make it sparkle even more!

Do you have a fun and unique way to share your memories and scrapbook layouts during the holidays? I would love to hear from you!

If you want to scrapbook your story but don’t want to actual do it yourself or know where to start, contact me and I can help.

Me Today

I saw this on someone else’s blog awhile ago and thought it was a fun idea.

outside my window… trees that all of a sudden look very “fall like”
i am thankful for… caffeine
i am wearing… comfy lounge clothes
noticing that…on gray days I feel very tired and blah
i am reading…just finished the help last night – not sure what the next book will be
on my mind…thinking of the things i need to do this week
around the house…is clutter i need to clean for some friends who are coming over this weekend for book club
from the kitchen…chocolate covered blueberries that i finished before
i’m creating…postcards to promote my children’s art books service
i’m listening to…new james blunt music
a few plans for the rest of the week… finish up some things for the Holly Berry Boutique I’m participating in and also starting Christmas shopping

What’s today for you? Sometimes making a small list like this is a great way to capture a moment in time.

Until next time,
